I picked up a D-Link DNS-320 network appliance, which had abysmal OOtB support for OSX. However, thanks to D-Link helpfully providing a Debian "squeeze" distribution for the device and the *awesome* folks involved with netatalk, the device is now a screamer. In my mind, netatalk is the Samba for Apple geeks: an outstanding open source implementation that really is well assembled. My sincere thanks!
It's a great idea, but as far as I can tell the source code (at least for Linux) for Berkeley DB is no longer available since Oracle acquired it.
