Overview
This project is not an MX Linux respin. It is an Arch Linux–based system that includes a curated package selection similar to MX Linux KDE (including artwork), along with many MX tools. The project name is provisional and may change to avoid confusion among Arch or MX users.
MX Tools and Differences
Most relevant MX tools are included. The primary modification is MX Package Installer, which:
- Omits the Popular, MX Test, and MX Backports tabs
- Adds an AUR tab for searching and installing Arch User Repository packages
AUR installation requires explicit user interaction:
- Confirmation must be typed (
y+ Enter) - A sudo password is requested when required
- The Enter key is required to initiate searches in the AUR tab
The default terminal uses fish shell with custom add-ons. Users may switch to bash or another shell via chsh if preferred.
Live System and Persistence
The system supports Live mode and behaves similarly to MX Linux, with the exception that traditional MX persistence is not supported. Instead:
- Changes made in Live mode can be preserved via remastering
- The CLI tool
arch-remastercan be used before reboot - Sufficient free space on the USB drive is required
- The Arch version of
mx-live-usb-makercan create remaster-capable USB media
Installation
Installation follows the MX workflow:
- Changes made in the Live environment (installed/removed packages and configuration changes) are carried over to the installed system
- This differs from typical Arch installations, which install from a static image
Support and Status
This is a personal, experimental project:
- Not supported or endorsed by the MX Linux team
- Not endorsed by the Arch Linux project
- Some MX tools may be under-tested on Arch and may contain bugs
Despite this, the system is usable and supports installation, remastering, and snapshotting (including mx-snapshot).
Notes
Use with caution. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are welcome. ISO updates may be provided if there is sufficient interest. As a rolling Arch-based system, it can also be installed once and kept up to date through regular system updates.
