The problem:

Often in linux you will receive a pdf, word or other such document,
with windows specific fonts.  The document doesn't have the fonts
embedded in it, and the font substituted does not look good at all.

You may also get errors about the font not being found.

The solution is to install the fonts on your linux/unix system.

msttcore-fonts-installer-2.6-1.noarch.rpm
msttcore-fonts-installer-2.6-1.src.rpm

  This provides the TrueType core fonts for the web that were once
  available from http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/.
  Here the actual fonts are downloaded from a Sourceforge project site
  mirror and unpacked at install time. Therefore this package
  technically does not 'redistribute' the fonts.  The fonts are then
  added to the core X fonts system as well as the Xft font system.

  When you install the rpm, it downloads the following cab files,
  unpacks them, and installs them to your system
  (/usr/share/fonts/msttcore).  It indexes, caches, and makes
  the fonts available to core X fonts and Xft fonts.
