One outstanding feature of MPC-BE that makes it preferable to MPC-HC is that Shoutcast and Icecast track info is displayed in the information bar. Why the MPC-HC team think that this feature request is so 'trivial' it can be ignored for years beats me. Even though MPC-BE uses similar internal filters used in older versions of MPC-HC, it can open Icecast 3mu and Shoutcast pls files. I found that after disabling the internal http/udp source filter I could use the LAV Splitter Source to play Shoutcast streams. This suggests that you could use the LAV Splitter Source to play rtsp/rtp streams, which if possible would open up possibilities for streaming media not possible before the MPC-HC/LAV union. I found that I cannot navigate DVDs using the mouse in the menus inside the video window and I cannot select the title or chapter menu from 'Navigate' in the menu bar. Room for improvement in DVD navigation. The built in FLV1/4 video decoder is useless because of freezing and dropped frames and CPU usage goes to 100%. I would prefer MPC-BE without internal filters and to be bundled with LAV filters which could be installed as external filters as an option during the main MPC-BE install.
Other than MPC-HC and other 'mods' it does not support record/play open Device if a Tuner such as Radio or TV DVB is connected in my case TerraTec USB DVB Stick. So I can not watch TV with it. Some irritations that are not present in older versions of MPC. DVD: "start playback from main title" does not work... playback starts right from the beginning - from copyright notice - every time (in VLC discs start at menu). Crashes occasionally with SVP active.
Missing simple stuff like indictors for chapters. Huge miss in functionality IMO. I also don't prefer the gradient toolbar, the flat original would be nicer IMO, just dark. Same with the progress bar. Simpler looking with chapter indicators would be nicer.
there is a problem in this software i can't solve it, the subtitles are not loading even if its name is the same as the video file, i usually got this message when i try to load the subtitles through the file menu: " to load subtitles you have to change the video renderer type and reopen the file. DirectShow:VMR-7/VMR-9(renderless), EVR Custom, EVR Sync or Haali Shockwave: n/a and I'm already using EVR Custom, even when i chose VNR-9 it's still not working, Haali vdeio renderer not available also VMR-7 renderless. i tried to use other subtitle renderer but it seemed that it's only the internal subtilte renderer is the avialable and not working, even the opensubtitle URL is not working when i'm using MPC-BE but working fine with MPC-HC, i don't know why! i also cannot load external subtitles as a result for this, the menu seems to be deactivated when i press right click on SUB on the toolbar
This player has a lot of potential since it is MPC HC knock off so it is small, fast and portable with some aditional very useful features like seek preview bar but in latest version it still has problem with rendering some MKV and HD WMV files. If devs would fix those problems i would consider it as my default media player.
a few more options and features missing.
