Building environment setup following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RootfsFromScratch
On Ubuntu 10.10, rootstock is now available as a Debian package and can be
installed directly from the Ubuntu repository using apt-get.
Host system must also include qemu support. Other host packages may need to be installed.
On Ubuntu 10.10 Use rootstock to generate a rootfs tarall, command as below:
sudo rootstock --fqdn myhostname --login ubuntu --password temppwd --imagesize 2G -d jaunty \
First extract the rootfs tarball:
sudo tar -C ~/rootfs -zxf armel-rootfs-XXXXXXXXXX.tgz
Mount the /proc filesystem:
sudo mount -t proc proc ~/rootfs/proc
Set up resolv.conf:
sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf ~/rootfs/etc/resolv.conf
And finally get inside the emulated environment, with chroot:
sudo chroot ~/rootfs
Use this command to rebuild the binary package(s):
dpkg-buildpackage -b -us -uc
Prior to entering the chroot environment you need to copy the source tarballs
into appropriate location, e.g., .../home/ubuntu. The tarballs can be
extracted within the chroot environment. Any source package that you want to
build needs to be present inside chroot environment.
The process described in this README file is very similar to the process
followed internally by Motorola to develop this product. One of the differences
is that Motorola also employed a cross-development environment.
The cross toolchain came from Code Sourcery and was used unmodified.
One file from the toolchain had to be copied to the target rootfs,
