Clips now hold only the motion with the seconds before and after, and the detection reacts only to what enters the area.
What's new in 1.0.1
- Exact clips: a lossless copy can only start at a keyframe, and many recorders put one every several seconds, or only one at the beginning of the file, so a clip could hold far more than requested. When no keyframe lies within half a second before the start, the clip is now re-encoded (H.264, CRF 18) and cut exactly; the report notes it. Stream clips are trimmed the same way. The option is now called Lossless copy when possible.
- Camera motion compensation follows only points of the still part of the scene (moving objects such as a stream of cars no longer pass for a camera movement), is accepted only when it reduces the pixels that differ from the background, and tolerates a two-pixel misalignment right after a camera movement (the parallax of a nearby pole is not motion).
- No lingering trace: where the picture differs from the background but no longer changes from one frame to the next (the trace left by an object that has passed, or an object that has stopped) the background catches up quickly instead of keeping the event open.
- Small areas: the minimum moving area has a floor of 0.03 % of the whole picture, so a tiny sensitive area is no longer triggered by a few pixels.
- Stream passwords are hidden also when the user name contains an @ (an e-mail address), and stopping a session no longer waits for a camera that does not answer.
- The release zip now includes the user manual with its screenshots (
docs/manual).
Download
MotionCut-1.0.1-windows-x64.zip is the standalone program for Windows 10/11 (64-bit). Python is
not needed: unzip it anywhere and run MotionCut.exe.
Updating from a previous version: replace MotionCut.exe with the new one. Your
tools folder (ffmpeg) and config.json stay as they are.
First start
- The interface starts in English; switch language (English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Albanian) in the Language box of the Configuration page.
- User manual with screenshots, in every language:
docs/manualin the zip, also on GitHub. - ffmpeg is not included: at first start the program offers to download the
official Windows build into a
toolsfolder next to the executable. - The executable is not signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time it runs.
