First public release: extract from videos, or from an RTSP camera stream, only the clips where something moves.
What's new in 1.0.0
- Three sources: a folder of videos with all its subfolders, a single video, or a live stream (RTSP, RTSPS, HTTP MJPEG/HLS, RTMP), with automatic reconnection when the camera drops.
- Sessions: every acquisition has a name and its own folder,
<name>-yyyymmdd-hhmmss, inside the chosen destination. - Clips from files keep the folder structure of the source and are named
<video name>_0000001.<ext>,_0000002…; they are cut without re-encoding (lossless, from the keyframe) or re-encoded to the exact frame. - Clips from a stream go into one folder per hour,
yyyy-mm-dd-hh, namedyyyymmdd-hhmmss.<ext>; the stream is recorded without re-encoding while it is analysed, so the seconds before the event are always there. - Seconds before and after every event, minimum motion length, maximum clip length; close motions are joined in one clip, clips never overlap.
- Sensitive and excluded areas, rectangles or polygons drawn on the picture, kept in proportion so they fit every video of the same camera.
- Detection by background subtraction with sensitivity, minimum moving area, rejection of sudden light changes and compensation of camera shake and slow pans.
- Session report in TXT, PDF (with the areas and a picture of every event) and JSON, plus
events.csvandsession.logwritten while the session runs: settings, every video with its result, every clip with its times, stream interruptions, SHA-256 fingerprints, method. Written when all the videos are done, or when the stream is stopped. - Live view of the analysis with the areas, the moving objects and a REC indicator; progress, speed and remaining time.
- Nine languages: English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Albanian, switchable at any time.
- ffmpeg downloader: the official Windows build is fetched into a
toolsfolder next to the program; stream passwords never appear in logs or reports.
Download
MotionCut-1.0.0-windows-x64.zip is the standalone program for Windows 10/11 (64-bit). Python is
not needed: unzip it anywhere and run MotionCut.exe.
Updating from a previous version: replace MotionCut.exe with the new one. Your
tools folder (ffmpeg) and config.json stay as they are.
First start
- The interface starts in English; switch language (English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Albanian) in the Language box of the Configuration page.
- User manual with screenshots, in every language:
docs/manualin the zip, also on GitHub. - ffmpeg is not included: at first start the program offers to download the
official Windows build into a
toolsfolder next to the executable. - The executable is not signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time it runs.
