  • It is a very nice program for motion detection. Simple to install in the basic version, it has a large number of features which can be a bit more complicated to understand all settings, but if you are happy with the basics, it is quite simple. There is also a good help available online. For the help, I would only suggest to add a line that the camera solution sometimes is limited by the computer/ the bandwidth and not by the camera itself or motion. This is an important message for BeagleBone/RaspberryPi applications. It drove me a bit nuts that the motion worked with 320x280 pixels but not with higher resolutions while on my laptop I could go much higher with the same camera and motion.
  • Best motion detecting video software out there. These guys could easily charge for this, and I would pay. But it's FREE! Woohoo! Beats ZoneMinder, hands down, in simplicity, customizability, and System resource usage (not a hog).
  • Motion is a great piece of software. We've written a tutorial on how to build a surveillance camera with a Raspberry Pi and motion: www.codeproject.com/Articles/665518/Raspberry-Pi-as-low-cost-HD-surveillance-camera
  • Great software for Raspberry pi and Ubuntu. 2 questions: Can I switch off the LED from attached webcam? configuration of IP cam, I cannot unchoose Video0. when preview it gives always webcam preview also when ip is selected. what I have to do?

  • Most features work great! I'm using a Logitech C615 HD USB webcam and motion handles 1080p just fine. My only problem is that "video_pipe" and "Motion_pipe" functions don't work with Ubuntu 12.10 and I need these so that I can use Motion for security and GoogleTalk/Skype at the same time.
