  • What a great project. I've run all the Miyos, but wmderland just satisfies some kind of unknown craving "it" has given me that's impossible to explain. I only wish it was based on the stable branch for easier updating, but that's not a deal breaker. I ran wmderland exclusively at work as well, which had me working on reports and such in remote outdoor locations, and it was then that I noticed it had great battery life too. Miyo, it was your work that finally got me to jump into the tiling window manager lake; full time. Period. I love minimalism and Miyolinux is a great starting point for anyone interested in the same. I add very few essentials and it's "my own" perfect setup. Thanks so much for the excellent work Miyo!

mrpectate, Thank you! I think wmderland is a fantastic tiling window manager and deserves more attention than it gets, so I'm really happy to know that you're using it! I'm probably going to change how I produce MiyoLinux going forward. In the past, I have produced multiple .isos with many different window managers. I will probably only produce one floating window manager and one tiling window manager based on the stable branch of Devuan from now on. wmderland will most likely be the tiling window manager. So if you'll hang in there, a stable version will be available whenever the next stable release of Devuan is available. Thank you again! MiyoLinux
  • There are some great Openbox Debian distros- Crunch Bang Plus Plus, Bunsen Labs, LiliDog, and now SystemD-free MIYOLinux. It's super lightweight and let's you tweak it to your hearts desires. I love it!
  • I'd use Miyo if I could find away around connman and wicd which just seem to bork my wireless beyond use. Edit: thank you Miyo for your reply and suggestion. I'll see if I can make it work. My plan is to build an install using both OB and dwm. (I'm a huge dwm fan...)

Hi rabideau. Sorry for the problem. I include cmst (connman), because it's lighter on resources. Did you follow the instructions for connecting to your wireless network in the "Live User Notes"? If so, and you still aren't able to connect, you can install network-manager-gnome. I just tried it on a Miyo-IceWM (Devuan Beowulf). Here's what I did... 1. As root (su or sudo), enter the following in your terminal... apt install network-manager-gnome 2. After it's installed, open the "Run command", and enter... nm-applet When it appears in the system tray, click on it, and connect to your wireless network. 3. As root (su or sudo), enter the following command in the terminal... apt remove cmst As I mentioned, I just did that, I've rebooted several times, and I've had a wireless connection every time with Network Manager. Thanks!
  • Normally always use Arch until recently tried a Devuan distribution and Miyo is another one I found on the forum. Good project, could use some work but over ok but not for me.
  • thank you ,this is the best and fastest linux , its make games run faster
  • I'm so glad with Miyo-Compiz! It works out-of-the-box! And it's based upon Devuan... Beowulf! (kernel 4.19.0-4) Surprisingly it's stable (even more than my previous experiences with Devuan itself). If you're going to give Miyo a try using VirtualBox (32bits) (EDIT:) MIYO-Compiz will boot great but you'll need Guest Additions version 5.2.29_130064 to run the rest of MIYO's flavours (otherwise, they won't be able to boot properly). However, if you plan to boot Miyo from a pendrive, you'll find no problem at all.

Thank you for the review! The issue with Virtual Box lies with the fact that there are no Virtual Box Guest Additions pre-installed in older versions of MiyoLinux. I did try to make this known in the Release Notes of previous versions; however, with the latest releases that use newer kernels, they should work in VB despite the fact that no Guest Additions are installed. The later kernels have them already included. :) Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy your time with Miyo! Respectfully, MiyoLinux
  • MIYO is an exceptional, easy to use distro along with attributes making it very eye appealing user experience. Found MIYO Openbox Wm essentially a unique release while focused later on with MIYO Awesome Wm which I found a highly customized Wm that I haven't seen before. Very impressed with MIYO's look and feel and yet easily configured to a users needs or wants. Know very well it is not an easy task to enhance the distribution and yet keep the image to the desired size for release. Devuan ASCII was a very good release for any user, MIYO has made an exemplary derivative (s) upon its base!

  • Hello, This sounds promising. I need to find a Debian based distro which will serve as a installer for a Command Line Interface (CLI) system. Debian still has all the tools, including "Menu" which is a CLI menu. If you add espeak or buy the IBM Text to Speech Voxin, you would be able to have a keyboard centered system, which ideal for blind users who otherwise have to play "Pin the Mouse on the Donkey!" which is really frustrating when you cannot see. If the developers would make a optional simple script to add espeak and espeakup and speakup and enable it, to talk and install alpine, mutt, console browsers, links, links2, elinks, lynx, w3m, yafc for ftp, it would be excellent. Best wishes, David
  • Update 22-04-19 The best Devuan distro out of the box!! The best Devuan distro period!!....and I ve tried them all! I have tried all Miyolinux versions they're all highly polished, and well produced. Support over at the Devuan Galaxy forum is good, where Miyo developer is in regular attendance. I hope Devuan really takes off as a distro because getting away from systemd is similar to getting away from Microsoft bloat. I can only hope, though think it needs something similar to Mint but Devuan based to achieve this Miyolinux has the.. professional polished finish that is required from a top class distro. Original review Review of Miyo-XTRA-Ascii, this version has the choice of 3 easily changeable desktop environments, Openbox, LXDE, and XFCE. I really dont think the authors are shouting loud enough about this. Really easy to use distro, think this will be my take everywhere lightweight distro. Wireless easier to set up than Puppy, or Porteus, generally more flexible than Slax. Definitely better than Lubuntu or Xubuntu if you want choice of software and less RAM overheads, aesthetically just as polished...if not more so. Using only 140mb RAM at idle with openbox, only 205mb with xfce and 214mb running lxde, will be a dream for old computers that may even still be 32bit and that its now difficult to get reliable RAM for as its out of production years ago. When programs close RAM usage level quickly return to previous idle levels, no leaky residual overheads. If you could do a persistent version, maybe of the XTRA version that would blow all the other lightweight distros clean out of the water. Thank you Miyo for all your time and effort bringing this to the world.

  • I really like this! This is my first time using the Awesome WM, and I'm quite impressed. The "Reload Awesome" function takes away the hassle of modifying menu config files, so adding and removing software is a breeze! It's fast, light, responsive, and looks great too! I've had a few minor issues/queries, and have found help on the Devuan forum very quickly. Well done (and thank you) to the developers for this one!

  • Excellent distro. Easy to figure out even for someone like me who has only been using Linux for a relatively short time. There is one issue though (actually two). The md5sum & sha256sum for the file "Miyo-XTRA-Jessie-64bit-20180120.iso" don't match. I downloaded the file twice and checked both times. (The second issue is I wish there was another way to report this, either by email or some other way.)

  • Excellent, all I needed as a base to built my system. Openbox without Miyo touch is very boring. Logged in and running desktop with less than 100Mb? Its a dream.

  • 5 Stars, this is really a great undiscovered little gem of an OS, aesthetically pleasing and an outstanding implementation of Openbox, useability on a par with the larger desktop environments, lots of fun to use and "make it your own"!

  • its just a devuan with openbox modified, works as base system for modifications, with pcmanfm and openbox... i hear that "runs very well in my EeePC" jah! installed mupen64plus and get hangs with mariokart! ok the clean iso runs, but when i installed some emulators got problems and get slowly the theme, ahh "features dark", i give only 2 in suppor and feartures due fall of documentation and git repository in a good place that dont waste the internet connection (sf require a huge connection to render the page, not so friendly in south american countries)
  • Runs very well on my EeePC 701.
