Highlights

This release is headlined by unitaryHACK 2026, during which five Mitiq bounties were solved! 🎉

• New experimental technique: debiasing. Mitiq gained a debiasing (also known as symmetrization) technique in mitiq.experimental, which runs variants of a circuit with the qubits relabeled by random permutations, undoes each permutation on the measured bitstrings, and combines the results — by averaging, or by shot-wise plurality vote (sharpening) — to wash out qubit-dependent errors. This closes a feature request (#1955) that had been open since 2023 (#3044). Thanks @mnn31!
• Hardware-agnostic PEA. Probabilistic Error Amplification now accepts user-supplied OperationRepresentations in construct_circuits and execute_with_pea, so noise representations learned from hardware characterization can be amplified directly instead of relying on the built-in depolarizing noise models (#3041). Thanks @zkasuran and @nez0b!
• Benchmarks against other error mitigation tools. New standalone scripts benchmark Mitiq's ZNE, PEC, and readout-error mitigation against qermit, mthree, and manual Qiskit implementations on standard benchmarking circuits (#3033). Thanks @kim-renaud!
• Two new tutorials. A worked Clifford Data Regression example using Clifft as the near-Clifford simulator (#3052, thanks @qnelsonksh!), and a tutorial combining error detection via the [[4,2,2]] code with ZNE (#3029, thanks @axif0!).

Beyond the hackathon, the Calibrator can now report a per-problem, per-strategy cost breakdown via Calibrator.get_cost_breakdown (#3077), digital dynamical decoupling sequences can be inserted using rules defined with non-Cirq frontends (#3065), executor return-type detection now works in code using from __future__ import annotations (#3062), and PennyLane conversions are compatible with PennyLane 0.45 and later (#3072).
