Frequently asked questions
last updated November 2020

This document is not a manual and by far a way of live assistance or being talked through some of the features of mIRC With Speech.
How ever it is a short description of some of the specific scripts unique to mIRC With Speech and that are slightly different to the more treditional features you may be accustomed to using in other accessible scripts.

This FAQ [Frequently asked questions] refers to commands, use of function keys and convenient no fuss aliases to familiarise yourself with.
It will address common questions and attempt to explain in detail how to operate MWS features within mIRC.

see the MWS [mIRC With Speech] appendix for a list of FUNCTION key uses and commands included in MWS as well as some common mIRC commands.

Question:
I know you can turn speech on or off for everywhere, specific servers or channels, that you can do it from MWS menu under speech.
But how do you do it by keyboard shortcuts?

Answer:
mIRC With Speech has shortcut keys utilizing the function keys at the top of your keyboard.
Treditionally the F5 and F6 keys will enable or disable your speech fully.
If you want to disable speech for a channel use the CONTROL F6 key and CONTROL F5 to re-enable it.
To disable speech for a hole server use SHIFT F6 and to re-enable use SHIFT F5.
Hint:
Remember C for channel, C for Control.
Remember S for Server, S for Shift.
As long as you have not installed any 3rd party scripts that utilise the same function keys this will work.
When assist mode is activated MWS will tell you how to reverse the feature used.

Question:
mIRC With Speech is stupid, it won't ignore people in private query, why?

answer:
if you are in a private query with someone you are trying to ignore, you need to close the query window before the ignore will take effect.
MWS does not implement any ignore alias and the ignore feature is standard to mIRC

Question:
I have an idea for a new feature, how can I request it?

Answer:
The developer is always willing to listen to input and feadback.
If he feels that the feature would be beneficial and likes the idea himself he will try to put it in upcoming versions.

Question:
My speech will sometime start reading the hole channel window from the top, is there a way to stop this from happening?

Answer:
The easiest way to avoid this is to clear the screen of the text.
You can clear the current window at anytime by pushing F2.
If you wish to clear every window on the server you are connected to, push SHIFT F2.

Question:
I see people saying the song they are playing, how can I do the same?

Answer:
MWS has the ability to announce what you are playing in WinAmp provided by [DarkEngineX].
To announce your current playing song, push F4.
Be aware some channels may ask you to not do this.
Somewhere down the track later versions of MWS will include an MP3 player.

Question:
I'm sick of the standard sounds and hate startrek, how can I use my own sounds?

Answer:
MWS now has sound pack capability with drop in folders.
Simply make a folder with your name, drop the sounds inside it and name them after the sound events.
Example: op.wav, deop.wav, kick.wav, netsplit.wav and highlight.wav
You can get a list of the currently supported MWS event sounds supported in the MWS appendix or by browsing the MWS/sounds folders.
Once your folder is compiled and you are happy with it,
Goto MWS menu, sounds and select the sub menu labelled "Change sound pack".
Select your soundpack folder name and you will immedietly start hearing your custom sounds.
Any sound events you didnt specify will just be ignored with no errors.
