You will want to download these notes for the Quick Start instructions below. (or at least have them available on line) This is the fifth version of the miniTraff traffic simulator and the mapTraff map creator. As such both should be considered beta software. I've attempted to test them as well as possible, but my test platforms are Linux (Debian Lenny w/ a 3.0.0 kernel and Fluxbox) and occasionally Windows ME/XE so other platforms may have problems. This program requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.5 (or greater). You can download the JRE free from: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp (Sun), or http://developer.apple.com/java/download/ (OS X, need 1.6) Changes in this Version (05) mapTraff now accepts elevation along with the previous Easting and Northing coordinates. miniTraff displays the street fragment 'grade' and the map can be displayed in 3D (CTRL-J) using Java 3D. UTDF (version 6) format import/export is supported, but traffic coordination and missing street names are still problematic. Changes in this Release (09) OK, it's been a while because I've been working on something else: (which has absolutely nothing to do with traffic engineering) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.glyphOK I Added a Language import / export function so that all of the text (error messages and help files) can be translated to another language. I removed depreciated code for version 4.2 and below (> two years old). I added an 'Object Hierarchy' diagram to the miniTraff help menu. I added lane offset to the Fragment dialog in mapTraff. Changes in this Modification (00) Several other bug fixes. See the ChangeLog for details. Quick start Instructions 0) This release of miniTraff will only import *.mtf files exported by miniTraff version 4.7 and above. Files exported before version 5.5 may have problems with intersection sizes when viewed in 3D. Pre-export older files to the new format (or delete them) before upgrading. 1) Backup any *.tfc files as miniTraff (*.mtf) files with the 'Backup Cites' function (CTRL-E). Move the files in the backup directory somewhere safe. After this version is installed you will not be able to read *.tfc files that were created in previous versions. 2) Unzip the Jar######.zip file. This will create a 'miniTraff' directory which will make cleanup easier if you decide this was a waste of time. Actually, you can run the whole thing from a floppy disk. (the zip file can be deleted after unzipping) mapTraff only 3) run the 2cjrun.bat file to start mapTraff. (Unix - you may need ". 2cjrun.bat" to avoid security problems) 4) Bring up the help panel (CTRL-/) and read the "Mapping Tutorial". 5-8) Create a map and save it. end mapTraff only miniTraff only 3) Run the 1jarun.bat file to start miniTraff. (Unix - using ". 1jarun.bat" may avoid security problems) (CTRL-/ will provide help text) 4) View the map and signals (CTRL-H) (Right clicking the mouse will open a pop-up menu) 5) Start traffic Running (CTRL-R) 6) Gaze in wonder for a while... 7) Kill traffic (stop it from running CTRL-K) - optional 8) Hide the map and signals (CTRL-H) - optional end miniTraff only 09) Quit the program entirely (CTRL-Q) - works at any time 10) (if you decide to get rid of the whole thing) - optional Delete the 'miniTraff' directory and all the files
