I played Meta a lot starting around 1996, not sure if that's exactly right because Quake itself was only released in June 1996. I remember Osiris, Sentinal who always played the fireball (can't remember the name of the class), Weezer and LordStorm from BC clan. LawDawg, and ZoMBiE. And of course Pyre and all the CR clan. Probably many others if I saw the name I would remember. Had a lot of fun playing and I think the concept of Meta holds up quite well. There should be more modern games where you can play as something other than a guy with a gun in a corridor. Hats of to Lon for creating it and hello to all the players from those days.

Pyre? I was there when this started! I was trying to find an old map I made for the server where I wrote "META" in the ground with a black texture over sand. Back then I was rolling as RDC or ZoMBiE...was in GibGoblins clan... anyone from the days who finds this, write me an email at

I was the original (mod) author, but only some of the ideas were mine. That this project continues under new leadership makes me happy. My less than perfect GPA in college was a direct result of this modification.
