silences a minor compiler warning (unused return value) and a missing cast
add the special value "NONE" as parameter for the keyword "logdir". A log entry with "NONE will not be written to a log file.

Simple Log Watcher
swatchdog.pl started out as swatch, the "simple watchdog" for activity monitoring log files produced by UNIX's syslog facility. It has since been evolving into a utility that can monitor just about any type of log. The name has been changed to satisfy a request made by the old Swiss watch company.
fetchlog - fetch new logfile messages
The fetchlog utility displays the last new messages of a logfile (syslog). fetchlog is similar like tail but offers some extra functionality like pattern matching with regular expressions, output formatting for email, SMS, pager or SNMP tools, etc.
