MentOS v0.10.0 is the release that brings resumable kernel execution into the scheduler, together with the memory-safety, filesystem, testing and documentation work needed to make that change dependable.
Kernel execution and scheduling
- Added resumable kernel continuations for blocking paths, including scheduler integration, wait queues, timer wakeups and signal delivery.
- Added explicit kernel continuation-stack sizing, guard-page protection and stack-canary checks.
- Preserved FPU state across context switches and added focused continuation, timer, signal and FPU tests.
- Removed obsolete stack-switch symbols and clarified scheduler/process lifecycle documentation.
Memory safety and fault handling
- Added bounded user-memory access helpers and applied validation across syscall boundaries, including
execve, read, write, time, pipeand terminal operations. - Hardened page-directory setup and page-fault diagnostics, including nested-fault reporting and accurate kernel stack ranges.
- Added argument/vector size limits and clearer
execvefailure reporting.
Filesystem and IPC correctness
- Fixed ext2 allocation, directory iteration, sparse-block, symlink, truncation and metadata error paths.
- Corrected pipe EOF, wakeup and locking behavior, and added coverage for buffered data after the last writer closes.
- Fixed procfs record layout, EOF handling and optional scheduler-feedback exposure.
- Corrected signal sender reporting,
nice()handling and synchronization syscall registration.
Tooling, tests and documentation
- Expanded the userspace suite to 87 tests and improved test-runner failure reporting.
- Added kernel unit-test boot mode and stronger CI coverage across GCC, Clang and macOS.
- Centralized repository maintenance guidance in
AGENTS.md, expanded maintainer documentation and moved CMake helpers undercmake/.
Verification
All required GitHub checks passed for the release PR, including Ubuntu Build and Test, kernel unit tests, GCC and Clang builds, macOS compilation, Doxygen generation and log-format validation.
The bootloader/kernel separation remains planned follow-up work in [#464]; it is intentionally outside this release.
