    mcrypt has gone unmaintained for years now, even major bugs are not getting fixed. People looking for similar functionality should check out Botan (http://botan.randombit.net/), cryptopp (http://www.cryptopp.com/) or libgcrypt (http://directory.fsf.org/project/libgcrypt/) these days.
