You can install Maxima with MacPorts.
MacPorts is a system for compiling, installing, and managing open source
software on macOS.
"MacPorts-Maxima-5.45.1.dmg" is a compressed disc image file.
It contains a new Maxima port-file and a note which explains how to install
Maxima-5.45.1, VTK-8.0.1, and wxMaxima-21.05.1.
This way is free from Apple's quarantine.
(1) download the "MacPorts-Maxima-5.45.1.dmg" file into the
"${HOME}/Downloads" directory.
(2) open "Terminal.app" in the "/Applications/Utilities" directory
and enter the next command in order to remove the "quarantine"
attribute of the "MacPorts-Maxima-5.45.1.dmg" file:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ${HOME}/Downloads/MacPorts-Maxima-5.45.1.dmg
(3) open the "MacPorts-Maxima-5.45.1.dmg" file
and follow the "ReadMe for Intel Mac.rtf" or "ReadMe for M1 Mac.rtf" file
in the disc image.
"ReadMe*.rtf" also explains how to use imaxima, TeXmacs, and VTK.
