To install, keep all files in original folder. This will be the program's location, so put it in a convenient place. If you have the version with a SetUp file, then double-click "setup.exe". Setup will install the program and create a startup folder called "MapGrid." If you have the version with MapGrid_INFO.exe, then double_click that file to start it. It will not install but will run directly from the .exe file.

MapGrid INFO is straight-forward and easy to use. Simply load a grid (raster map) and click "Get Grid Info." This program will open .tif, .asc, and .bil grids.

Grid information displayed:
	number of columns,
	number of rows,
	the nodata value,
	total cells in grid,
	number of cells with values,
	number of cells with nodata,
	minimum value,
	maximum value,
	mean,
	median,
	mode,
percent of value cells with mode value,
a frequency distribution (histogram) of values,
cell size (x distance, y distance)

Cell size is displayed in map measurement units. For UTM maps the unit is meters; for most other projections the unit is degrees of latitude (y side) and longitude (x side). Degree distances are converted to approximate meter distances for those grids with cell sides measured in degrees. The conversion uses an approximation of 111,000 meters per degree of latitude, and 111,000 meters per degree of longitude at the equator. Degree ground distances for longitude measurements are adjusted depending on the grid's latitudinal position (the higher the latitude, the shorter the ground distance for each degree of longitude).

Note that because lines of longitude converge as they approach the poles, a latitude/longitude grid with sides that have equal degree-distances will not have cells that are actually square.

If the grid is large, it will take some time to process all the cells. Be patient; it will eventually complete the job.
