README mythtv.28.1

Download and double-click on the file to install MythTV for OS X (10.9 or higher).

What's changed?
+ up-to-date version of MythTV 0.28.1!
+ install process simplified--no more Terminal commands required to get the database up and running.
+ WebFrontend -- check out the initial version of planned replacement for MythWeb
+ lots of pesky little things (like fonts) are fixed.
- Now requires OS X version 10.9 or later.

The installer provides everything needed to run a complete MythTV system:
-backend and MySQL, the background processes that are the heart of Myth's recording system
-frontend, the interface to setting recording rules and enjoying TV, videos, etc.
-MythWeb, for accessing and controlling your Myth system via a web browser (normally only
within your own home network)
-all the other bits and bobs!

New Install?
The installer is "all-in-one"--everything needed to run MythTV on Mac OS X is included*. Fire up the installer and let it work away for a few minutes. (You need about 1.2 GB of free space for all the software that is installed. And much more for the video you'll be recording.)

See the wiki page for what to do before and after running the installer:

Upgrading?
Back up! My intrepid beta group had no problems but making a backup is always smart before installing new stuff. Remember, Myth upgrades are a one-way process. If you want to go back to a previous version, the only way to do it is by restoring a backup.

Use Myth Stop Start to shut down mythbackend...then launch the installer. In a few minutes, you should be able to use Myth Stop Start and carry on with a shiny new 0.28.1 system!

* If you are already using MacPorts or think that you might like to enjoy some of the thousands of open source software packages available through MacPorts, DON"T use this installer. This installer is _built_ with MacPorts tools; if you want to _use_ MacPorts directly then you shouldn't mix the two.
