LOFP - Libertine Open Fonts Project We work on a TrueType font-family: Serif and Grotesk (Sans Serif) for practical use in documents. This project aims at creating a free alternative to the standard W*ndows Fonts (T*mes and Ar*al). PfaEdit is used as FontEditor (see http://pfaedit.sf.net). We publish our fonts under the terms of the GPL, (see http://www.fsf.org/licenses/gpl.html). It is our goal to create a really good font with a real italic and bold variant, with OSF (old style figures -> old numbers) and small Caps. We publish our fonts at http://linuxlibertine.sf.net. Though we mark builds as milestones regularly we always recommend to download the latest release. Milestone classification just serves to mark wider steps where a change in the font is so grave that even a non-typograph can see it. We are not the only project that aims at creating a GPLed TTF. But unfortunately the other projects known to us either have - a very strange license and ugly shape see Bitstream Vera, Bitstream http://www.gnome.org/fonts - or the work has stopped once and has never finished (last update march 2001) strange, too, is that it's produced by a Japanese Lab and has no japanese letters included... efont serif, Electronic Font Open Laboratory http://openlab.jp/efont/serif/
