What's new

  • Via ferratas are drawn by their grade, routed as footpaths and marked with a climber at both ends; the map card names the grade and says gear is required.
  • Trams, cable cars and masts have a look of their own instead of the railway's, the ski lift's and the power pylon's.
  • kmap recover downloads the OSM regions it needs, 1 at a time.

What's changed

  • kmap recover needs extracts holding at least a quarter of the map's data, with --extract too.
  • Reassignment sheets made before 1.8.0 for railways, cable cars, masts and via ferratas no longer match: run kmap recover again.

Upgrading

Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.8.0_<arch>.deb; on other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer; on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.

Which file

System File
Windows kmap-1.8.0.exe - one installer, whatever the machine
macOS kmap-1.8.0.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac
Debian, Ubuntu kmap_1.8.0_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.8.0_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM
Other Linux kmap_1.8.0_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.8.0_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM

Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word you need.

First run

Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.

checksums.txt carries a SHA-256 for every file above.
