What's fixed
- Faster map builds: the tile split and the road repair take about a fifth less time, and with Java 25 or newer mkgmap starts warm from the second build on.
- kmap installs Java 25 where it can be had, Java 21 otherwise, and runs the Java it installed where that is newer than the machine's own.
- On WSL 1, builds, downloads and installs no longer hang.
- The command-line build log is printed in full on long builds, and its JSON output reports stages in order.
- Clearer messages for network and file errors.
- On Windows, TYP files are found on every drive.
- Elevation data in a cache folder reached through a link is found.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.7.3_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.7.3.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.7.3.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.7.3_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.7.3_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.7.3_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.7.3_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
