What's new
Two bare-earth elevation sources. Copernicus measures the surface, so forests and buildings sit on the ground as hills. Two models with them taken off can now be chosen instead; Copernicus stays the default.
fabdem1: FABDEM v1.2 from the University of Bristol, Copernicus GLO-30 with forests and buildings removed, 60°S to 80°N. Non-commercial use only (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).gedtm1: GEDTM30 v1.2 from OpenGeoHub, a global bare-earth model, 65°S to 85°N (CC BY 4.0). It is one very large file on a slow server: kmap fetches only the pieces under your regions, and a rebuild reuses them.
List a second source after either one, for example fabdem1,copernicus1,copernicus3, and it fills what the first does not cover. Both are offered on the build screen that way.
- The map now carries the attribution each elevation source asks for under Map Info, Copernicus included.
- Converting elevation tiles is faster: about 8% for Copernicus and 18% for FABDEM, with the same output, byte for byte.
What's fixed
- Elevation sources are fetched in the order you list them.
view1,copernicus1used to download Copernicus for the whole region and then use Viewfinder anyway. - A download whose server sends back a different part of the file than was asked for is refused instead of being stitched in, and a server asking kmap to slow down (HTTP 429) is retried.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.7.0_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.7.0.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.7.0.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.7.0_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.7.0_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.7.0_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.7.0_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
checksums.txt carries a SHA-256 for every file above.
