What's fixed
A newer cached extract is no longer swapped for an older one. While Geofabrik's -latest files come and go, a mirror may offer the previous day's extract instead. kmap took that for an update and downloaded it over the newer copy in the cache, costing a full download and a day of data. It now keeps the cached extract and says so in the log.
What's new
- Maps compile about 8% faster with the mkgmap patch, with the same output. The patch rebuilds itself at the next start or build.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.6.1_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.6.1.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.6.1.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.6.1_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.6.1_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.6.1_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.6.1_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
