What's new
A wood drawn across a village stays a wood. OpenStreetMap often draws a forest straight across a settlement, with no hole cut in either. kmap now draws the trees over the settlement's tint and the houses and roads over the trees, so the lie of the land stays readable. Meadows, fields and scrub round a village stay under it.
- With the mkgmap patch, a glade, a field or a patch of scrub lying on a larger wood is drawn over the trees instead of vanishing under them.
- The mkgmap patch keeps itself current: one built by an older kmap is rebuilt at the next start or build.
What's fixed
- Water is drawn over fields, woods and settlements that run across the shoreline.
- Reservoirs, small lakes and riverbanks appear at the same zoom as the rivers that feed them.
- Settlements appear at the same zoom as the woods round them.
- Scrub has a plain fill at the zooms before its pattern appears.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.6.0_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.6.0.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.6.0.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.6.0_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.6.0_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.6.0_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.6.0_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
