What's new

Faster. Splitting and road repair take about a third less time, and elevation tiles convert three times as fast.

  • Compression comes from libdeflate, built into kmap: a tile is the same bytes on every platform, and the Linux packages no longer need zlib.
  • Vector code is chosen by what the processor has, down to the oldest x86-64.

What's fixed

  • Elevation north of 80 degrees is back. Since 1.4.1 the Copernicus tiles of Svalbard, Franz Josef Land and the far north of Greenland and Canada were refused, and maps there came out without relief.
  • A region Geofabrik no longer has is reported at once, and a mirror that asks kmap to slow down gets a pause.
  • An extract not sorted by id splits in seconds rather than hours.

Upgrading

Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.5.0_<arch>.deb; on other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer; on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.

Which file

System File
Windows kmap-1.5.0.exe - one installer, whatever the machine
macOS kmap-1.5.0.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac
Debian, Ubuntu kmap_1.5.0_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.5.0_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM
Other Linux kmap_1.5.0_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.5.0_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM

Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word you need.

First run

Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.

checksums.txt carries a SHA-256 for every file above.
