What's fixed
A newer extract is no longer missed. A build of several regions asks the server about all of them at once, and Geofabrik may turn one of those questions away. That region was then taken from the cache, although a newer extract was out. Every question to the server is now asked again, after a pause, before kmap settles for the cached copy; and when it does, the warning says why.
- A build of several regions no longer takes a region from the cache when the server drops one of its answers.
- The
.md5beside an extract is asked for again when the first try fails, rather than costing a full check or download. - The Copernicus tile list and the Viewfinder index are asked for again too, so a dropped answer no longer costs the contours and the elevation layer.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.4.2_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.4.2.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.4.2.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.4.2_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.4.2_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.4.2_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.4.2_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
