What's fixed
A release of fixes. A review of the whole program turned up crashes on damaged or unusual input, and a list of smaller faults. On every region we compared, what a map is built from comes out byte for byte as with 1.4.0, but for one road join described below.
- A damaged or unusual
.osm.pbfno longer crashes the reader or the writer. - A full disk stops a pass with an error instead of a crash, and half-written tiles are removed.
- A GeoTIFF with a broken header, or with NaN for missing heights, no longer crashes the elevation step.
- Copernicus elevation for a large region no longer keeps every tile in memory.
- An empty or one-pixel
.hgtis refused instead of crashing the contours. - A road with a nonsense
layervalue no longer crashes road repair. - Road repair no longer merges away a node it has just used to join two roads.
- mkgmap output in Cyrillic is no longer lost in pieces, so a tile that overflows is caught again.
- Contours are kept when the classify pass comes back empty.
- A re-split no longer classifies every extract again.
- A split too large to tell its tiles apart says so instead of crashing.
- Custom POIs (
.gpi) cover every region of a joined map, not the first alone. - Downloads: a short single-connection file is resumed rather than kept, and a drop after the last byte is no longer an error.
- An interrupted install no longer leaves a half-patched mkgmap that is taken for the original.
- Ctrl+C stops
kmap buildcleanly, the tools it runs included; a second Ctrl+C leaves at once. - Ctrl+C no longer waits for the checksum of a large extract to finish.
kmap recoverstops with an error on a damaged.imginstead of crashing.- TYP files: several crashes on malformed files fixed, and files saved with Windows line endings are read.
- A true-colour icon in an imported TYP is left out with a note instead of breaking the compile.
- A substitution sheet saved with Windows line endings is no longer read as empty.
- Command line: a flag no longer takes the next flag as its value.
- Command line: unknown
buildoptions, unknown--sourcesand non-numbers where a number is due are refused. kmap build +no longer crashes.- The build and settings forms scroll on a short terminal, so Build is always in reach.
- Prompts, questions and dialogs show on a small terminal.
- Saving or deleting says so when the file could not be written.
- A mouse report split in two is no longer typed into the editor as digits.
- Chinese, Japanese, Korean and emoji in names and tool output take their real width on screen.
- Windows: the command line prints in UTF-8, so dashes and dots are no longer garbled.
- Windows: copies, downloads and logs wait for a virus scanner to let go of a file.
- Faster: the split, contours next to large water, and the POI file.
Changed. kmap build <region> --dem with no profile now lifts the summits in the elevation layer, as kmap help always said. Road repair gives one join a different shape: the only case in the Northwestern district of Russia is three indoor corridors at a metro station.
Upgrading
Install over the top. On Debian and Ubuntu sudo apt install ./kmap_1.4.1_<arch>.deb; on
other Linux unpack the archive and put kmap on your PATH; on Windows run the installer;
on macOS replace the app. Profiles, styles and cached downloads stay put.
Which file
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Windows | kmap-1.4.1.exe - one installer, whatever the machine |
| macOS | kmap-1.4.1.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac |
| Debian, Ubuntu | kmap_1.4.1_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.4.1_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM |
| Other Linux | kmap_1.4.1_linux_x86_64.tar.xz for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.4.1_linux_aarch64.tar.xz for 64-bit ARM |
Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later, any other
Linux with glibc 2.17 or later. dpkg --print-architecture or uname -m prints the word
you need.
First run
Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.
