What's new

Sharper recognition. kmap recover reads a finished map against the ground it was built from and works out the style behind it. It now names more of what it finds: an element is identified by the cells it aligns on and the runs of vertices it shares with a way, rather than by resemblance, and the vocabulary it draws on has grown.

The data packs keep themselves current. The coastline and boundary packs go stale where they sit, and nothing used to say so. A build now asks the mirrors whether they have been republished, as often as you choose: a new Data updates row in Settings, from every build to never, and the toolchain screen fetches a newer pack on u.

Smaller fixes: dates read the same whatever calendar the machine is set to, a borrowed style section keeps its own label, and a build stops cleanly when cancelled.

Upgrading

Install over the top. On Linux sudo apt install ./kmap_1.1.0_<arch>.deb; on Windows run the installer; on macOS replace the app. Your profiles, styles and cached downloads stay where they are.

Which file

System File
Windows kmap-1.1.0.exe - one installer, whatever the machine
macOS kmap-1.1.0.dmg - one image, whatever the Mac
Linux kmap_1.1.0_amd64.deb for 64-bit x86, kmap_1.1.0_arm64.deb for 64-bit ARM

Not sure which Linux package? dpkg --print-architecture prints the word you need.

Windows 10 1803 or later, macOS 13 or later, Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 or later.

First run

kmap fetches what it needs on request - Java, the mkgmap compiler, and pyhgtmap for elevation. There is nothing else to install.

Nothing here is code-signed, so the first launch takes one extra click. On Windows: More info, then Run anyway. On macOS: right-click kmap and choose Open; from macOS 15, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway.

What you downloaded
