KAutoKey v5 Update – May 2026

A major rebuild of KAutoKey from the ground up.

This release moves KAutoKey onto a new foundation with a completely reworked interface, better task building, improved input handling, profiles, remaps, macro recording, themes, and a much cleaner workflow overall.

This is more than a normal update. KAutoKey v5 is built to be easier to use now and easier to expand in future updates. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Key Highlights

• Full Rework From the Ground Up
KAutoKey has been rebuilt in a new language with a new app structure, replacing the older Python-based version with a stronger foundation.

• New Task Builder
Tasks are now built from clear action rows instead of the older simple mode system. You can create sequences with keyboard inputs, mouse inputs, waits, scrolling, mouse movement, typing, and more.

• Improved Action System
Actions now support tap, hold, timed hold, repeat counts, wait-after timing, and cleaner editing. Longer action lists are much easier to read and manage.

• Profiles
Added profile support so different setups can be organized separately instead of everything living in one place.

• Input Remapping
Added input remapping tools for making one key or mouse button act like another.

• Macro Recorder
Added a recorder page for capturing inputs and turning them into editable tasks.

• Presets
Added preset support for quickly creating common accessibility/task setups.

• New Interface
The UI has been completely redesigned to be cleaner, more compact, and easier to understand at a glance.

• Theme System Improvements
Themes have been reworked with cleaner colors, better consistency, and a theme-aware in-app logo.

• Better Import / Export
Task and profile import/export now use proper desktop file dialogs instead of browser-style prompt boxes.

• Better Hotkey / Input Detection
Input detection has been improved for hotkeys and task actions, including keyboard and mouse inputs.

• Start / Stop Feedback
Added optional task start/stop sounds, with a setting to turn them off if preferred.

• New App Icon / Branding
KAutoKey now has updated branding and a new logo/icon style.

• Updater / Release Compatibility
The update flow has been kept in mind so users can move forward from older versions more smoothly.

Notes

Because v5 is a full rebuild, some things may feel different from v4. The goal was to make KAutoKey cleaner, easier to use, and better set up for future updates instead of continuing to patch the old version forever.
