Readme - Version 4.9.7

The program is mainly based on W6CQZ, Joe Large's JT65-HF (Menu About JT65-HF). It follows the same philosophy as the original, though many portions of the program has been recoded. The library libWSJT3 with core functions (e.g. for message pack and unpack, encode and decode, modulation and demodulation, signal conditioning, filtering, interference suppression, passband flattening and other DSP tasks), also used in WSJT, are developed by K1JT, Joe Taylor. W6CQZ has modified some tasks to use in his JT65-HF. I have myself modified some parts of this software to optimize JT65-HF HB9HQX-Edition. Thank you very much K1JT and W6CQZ for that excellent code, written in FORTRAN and C.

Important notes:

The two databases JT65-Log.sqlite and config.sqlite from previous versions remains in subdirectory JT65-HB9HQX\Appfiles.

After first start, you must set some minimal values:

Configure > Station
Insert your call and your grid in the appropriate fields (yellow background color).

Configure > Internet > Time synchronization
Choose your preferred time server (Host URL) on the panel Settings and mark the checkbox Activate SNTP.

Configure > Internet > Weblogs > eQSL
Fill in your account data and and mark the checkbox Activate real-time upload.

Configure > PTT
Set PTT via to PTT port.
Choose the proper PTT port or disable it.
If PTT port is enabled, choose the control line on the panel PTT line (RTS or DTR).

Configure > KVASD
Read the EULA.
If you agree with the EULA: You can install this additional decoder by a click on the button I agree.

Don't forget to click on the button Save Configuration to close the window.

Mainwindow > Dial QRG kHz
The empty text field has a yellow background color. Select the proper Dial QRG from the combobox or type the QRG in the text field.

You can find a lot of additional settings on the windows Configuration and Settings.

If you have no experience with the HB9HQX-Edition, read the Manual, available on the download page (Browse all Files).

Download page for the manual

Note: Close and restart the program every 12 hours.

The main features of JT65-HF HB9HQX-Edition 4.9.7

Clearly arranged mainwindow with 6 additional windows:

  • QSO Exchange: Shows a separate list of all own QSO exchange messages with timestamps.
  • Information Lookup: Shows information about the selected station, Grid and DXCC. The topmost row contains three text fields for inserting CQ and ITZ zones as well as the State in the logdatabase. The field DXCC is editable. You can overwrite a wrong dxcc prefix with the correct prefix or with the dxcc id (like ADIF tag DXCC). If the prefix is unknown, e.g. with mobile or maritime mobile stations, insert - or 0. Finish editing with the enter key. The Menu Lookup opens the internet browser for consulting the webdatabase of QRZ.COM, QRZCQ, HamCall and/or HamQTH.
  • Statistic: Information about QSOs, stations, worked grids and dxcc countries.
  • Grids on map: Shows worked grids on "Google Static Maps" with 5 zoomed windows: Europe, Asia, USA, Australia and China.
  • Raw decoder: Shows all decodes with or without messages (only for test purposes).
  • Background: Hide desktop icons to improve screenshots.

Two windows are used to configure the program or change settings.
- The window Configuration interrupts the program (e.g. the display of time and date is stopped).
- The window Settings.

Easy to use, (semiautomatic) one click on a row in the receive list or on one of the buttons (CQ to Free Text) suffices.

The most important features:

  • Quick Multi decoder from 170 Hz ... 2430 Hz.
  • Use audio frequencies as absolut values or as DF values.
  • A single click with the right mouse button in the waterfall display sets the receive frequency.
  • A single click with the left mouse button sets the transmit frequency.
  • Receive list with transmitted messages and additional informations (new station, grid or dxcc)
  • Button Copy to save the whole receive list in the clipboard.
  • Descending or ascendig order of time (UTC) in the receive list. New entries on top or bottom of the list.
  • Descending or ascending order of frequencies at the same time in the receive list.
  • The list of QRGs and the list of individual texts are editable. Edit Dial QRG and Edit Free Text.
  • A single click with the right mouse button on a row in the receive list prepares a QSO.
  • A single click with the left mouse button prepares and starts a QSO.
  • Automatically checks for duplicate new DXCC and new grid (different colors).
  • Display of azimuth and distance (km or mi).
  • Display of the name.

Optional:

  • For corrupted signals: KVASD Koetter Vardy Algebraic Soft-decision Decoder.
KVASD needs a separate installation (Configure > KVSD).
  • Call labels of calling stations in the waterfall display.
  • Band- and timestamp labels in the waterfall display.
  • Acoustic alert (in morse code) after decoding. Note: This feature uses a separate sound device!
  • Synchronizes in short time intervals the program time with an internet timeserver (SNTP).
If you synchronize the system time with a SNTP services, like Meinberg or Dimension 4, disable this addidional synchronizing process.
  • Spots heard calls and grids to pskreporter.info.
  • Save all sent and received messages (decodes) in one text file per day.
  • Real-time upload to eQSL.cc just before logging a QSO.
  • Real-time upload to HRDLOG.net.
  • Real-time upload to ClubLog.org.
  • Generates the file JT65hf-log.csv to cooperate with the JT65-HF Image Controller from JQ1HDR.
  • Save the last 50 rows of the receive list in a textfile.
  • All settings are saved in a database (config.sqlite).
  • PTT via PTT port: RTS or DTR line. But you can also use VOX instead of PTT.

All imported and logged QSOs are saved by default in the JT65-Log (jt65-Log.sqlite database).

  • Edit logged QSOs (use Filter(s) and/or ordering to edit your logged QSOs).
  • ADIF: Import/Export log files (also used for eQSL.cc and LotW).
  • MixW2: Import/Export log files.

Selection of one of 10 different logdatabases or logfiles:

  • JT65-Log (jt65-Log.sqlite) with edit, import and export functions (default)
  • HRDLogbook (HRD5 and HRD6) logdatabases (MSACCESS and MySQL)
  • Mycall.mdb (DXKeeper logdatabase)
  • Mycall.sqlite (Log4om logdatabase)
  • MixW2 logfile (*.log)
  • Logger32 (Logger32.exe) + JT65-Log (for statistics)
  • WSJT-X (wsjtx.log and wsjtx_log.adi)
  • Swisslog for Windows version >= 5.97. Run Swisslog and choose menu Options > Digital Modes-Interface and mark JT65-HF HB9HQX Edition to activate the communication between both programs. Note: You should register Swisslog with menu Help > about..., tab Register. Every time, start Swisslog first.
  • TRX-Manager (has his own CAT control)
  • ADIF logfile Direct use without import in the JT65-Log.

Optional CAT control:

  • OmniRig. (OmniRig must be installed and configured prior to using this feature).
  • Hamlib 3. (Hamlib 3 is on board. No need to install it on your notebook pc)
  • Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD5 and HRD6).
  • CI-V Commander (DXLab).
  • TRX-Manager (has his own logging program). Use the file "bandplan_jt65.csv" instead of the default file "bandplan.csv" in the directory "...\AppData\local\TRX-Mananger\Misc".
  • If CAT control: PTT via CAT command or COM port (RTS or DTR).
The program calculates the appropriate transverter QRG.

Version 4.9.7

  • Modified decoder thread to reduce memory usage. It should be possible to run the program longer than 12 hours without restart.

  • Bug in the dxcc database is fixed (Prefixes 6K-6N = South Korea, ID 137).

Version 4.9.6

  • The dxcc entity Palau haD the wrong (outdated) dxcc prefix KC6. Now i have replaced it (in the database dxcc.sqlite) with the correct prefix T8.

  • JT65-Log: A new fatal bug (>= 4.7) in the window "Insert QSO" is fixed.

  • Modified code for refresh and save the receive list (with max. 200 rows).

  • All messages with (station call and grid) are spoted to pskreporter.info, without any limitation.

Version 4.9.5

  • Two bugs in the dxcc database are fixed: Missing Antarctica (13), and wrong ID for Reunion Island (543 instead of 453).

  • The information window reads the dxcc entity of an existing call from the temporary log database, rather to determine it from the call prefix.

  • The dxcc label on the information window is replaced with an edit field. You can change the entry in that field. Type either the correct dxcc prefix or the unique adif dxcc id, e.g. 13 for Antarctica (CE9). Finish editing with the enter or the tab key (or click with the left mouse button on an other edit field).

  • The dxcc prefix field on the log window (and the Edit > JT65-Log window) are also editable and has the same behavior like the dxcc field on the information window.

  • New Button "Browse: eQSL.cc Login" on the tab Configure > Internet > Weblogs > eQSL

  • Minor modifications in the jt65-hf.dll

Version 4.9.4

  • A Bug with lower case operator names like "Beat" instead of "BEAT" is fixed.

  • A few bugs in the database file dxcc.sqlite are fixed. Please send me all bugreports, e.g. missing dxcc countries.

Version 4.9.3

  • The new, quick ADIF parser could not process tags like <QSO_DATE:8:D>20170425 . In this case, it was impossible to import ADIF data or direct use an ADIF file as logdatabase. This bug is fixed.

Version 4.9.2

  • Logging in Logger32 don't work in 4.9. This bug is fixed.

Version 4.9.1

  • Bug in a SQL statement for the HRD Logbook is fixed (ODBC error).

Version 4.9

  • The logprogram DXKeeper uses for some countries other DXCC prefixes as this program, e.g. EW instead of EU for Belarus. This bug is fixed.

  • Now the program recognizes all received combinations from CQ AA to CQ ZZ as CQ DX calls.

  • Ugly behavior: A second click on a row in the receive list could overwrite a slashed call with the same unslashed in the logfield Station.
    This bug is fixed.

  • Logging a QSO refreshes the 6 windows Grids on map. On the zoomed maps, the new grids are shown as a filled rectangle. Many thanks to Peter HB9BUN for the suggestion and bugreport (DXCC prefixes in DXKeeper).

  • Grids on map: Two grids side by side are separated by one pixel of space.

  • New Free Text macro * = Log QSO (after change from Generated Text to individual text).

  • Now, the length of Free Text" is displayed on a label above the text field. If macros are present, the length is calculated with actual call and/or name.
Be careful: The transmitted text is always truncated to 13 chars!

  • Two additional radio buttons Focus order -dB (Settings > Buttons), > RRR > Free Text and > Free Text. The user has more options to end a QSO after CQ.

  • Improved configuration of HRD Logbook. Additional file open dialog to search the file LogbookDatabase.xml (if not saved in one of the standard directories).

  • The configuration and the settings windows has a new design (additional panels with grey background color on all tabs).

  • The program provides all versions (>= 5.97) of Swisslog.
