                     README for Jreepad

ABOUT:
------

FOR A PROPER INTRODUCTION TO JREEPAD, it's a good idea to 
look at the manual "JreepadManual.hjt", which is in Jreepad format.
Start Jreepad, then use the "File > Open" menu option to load 
"JreepadManual.hjt" (you may need to download it separately from 
Sourceforge).

Jreepad is free software made available under the terms of the 
Gnu Public License. (C) Dan Stowell.


GETTING STARTED:
----------------

Jreepad runs entirely in Java - so it needs no installation.
You do need to have Java 1.2 or later installed on your system, though.

MAC OSX USERS:   Just download the ".dmg" file - it contains the 
                 Jreepad application, which you can drag into your
                 "Applications" folder and run.
               
ALL OTHER USERS: Download the ".jar" file, which is the OS-independent
                 Jreepad application. To run it you'll normally need
                 to type the following command:
                 
                     java -jar Jreepad-1.3.jar



TROUBLESHOOTING:
----------------

If when you try to run Jreepad you get the error message

                    Warning: -jar not understood. Ignoring. 

plus a load of other rubbish, and Jreepad doesn't appear, then you are
using an old version of Java. Either you don't have a new enough version 
of Java installed, OR you may need to change your system's environment
variables to point it at the "correct" installation of Java.
