Release 2026-02
What would ARCH be like booting with runit ?
This is the question we have tried to answer since 2021
Not an experimental system, this is a daily runner for many years in many x86_64 systems, older or newer machines do not matter. Light and fast are the keywords to describe it.
files/
r/ is the catch all repository with all three repository database files and all
packages **job(core)** **job(extra)** & **job(comm)**
images/ is the area where the two installation images are kept as well as a text file
with their sha256sums

joborun-latest (141M) is the base system you explode in a partition, add kernel
and bootloader of choice, configure your usual personalization options,
then reboot and enjoy.
jobbot (190M) is the base system for a building chroot, not a bootable system.
It is the base where all joborun pkgs are built.
Using the joborun-latest image, after setting up, adding kernel and bootloader as necessary, after your first boot you may wish to install a graphic environment, add-gfx can be evoked from terminal on first boot and login, or you can cancel and invoke later.
add-gfx provides you with 3 options
1: X11 (openbox & jwm) -- start with xinit or startx
2: wayland labwc (openbox equivalent for wayland) -- simply login again and run labwc or add it to .zlogin or .bashrc to have it start as soon as you login.
3: remain on a base system on console and use pacman to build your own system Other than the 3 wm we promote we build many others that deserve your attention There are more than 1000 pkgs in our repositories and most in jobcomm you will not find in Arch core or extra
- run the script again to install both an X and Wayland environments
From that point you are free to wonder between our repositories, Arch, Obarun, and a few more pacman based repositories.
Ctrl-Alt-T (or M-enter) should start a terminal in either case.
Right click will give you a menu (openbox jwm labwc)
