This is a pre-release beta version (0.82) of Jedi, a specialized editor for Java source files. The only change from the previous version (0.81) is the copyright notice.

The editor works (just about) but is missing some features:

   1. Search and replace
   2. Syntax colorizing
   3. Automatic detection of variable shadowing
   4. Automatic management of import statements
   5. Intelligent folding of the source code
   6. One-click insertion of common Java constructs
   7. Quick link to definition of methods and variables
   8. Multiple tabs and global search-and-replace

However it does have basic editing features, autoformatting and a clipboard with multiple entries. I am making it available now to get feedback on its perceived usefulness and to collect ideas on how it could be improved.

To run it, just click on the downloaded jar file. It is written in Java so it should work on any platform with a Java Runtime Environment. The licence is GPL3.

The user manual (manual.html) shows what I am trying to do, and which bits of the editor have been completed so far. The user manual, source files, learning journal, licence etc are in the jar file and can be accessed by opening it with any zip utility.

Please contact me via the discussion group or directly via email if you have found a problem with Jedi, or can think of an improvement, or if you wish to help in any way.

Many thanks,

Richard Bosworth.
