Ekit

Description: HTML Editor that can save to (but NOT load) RTF files

ekit.png

Ekit is a free open source Java HTML editor applet and application. The Ekit standalone also allows for HTML to be loaded and saved, as well as serialized and saved as an RTF. It is approaching its first production release version.

Ekit has proven to be very popular, with hundreds of developers using it in over 30 countries. Many have added to it already, and I always welcome additional contributions. Please feel free to share any enhancements or bug reports with me.

Packager's notes: Ekit on Haiku has a few bugs. You can save to RTF, but only if you have first saved the file to HTML. If you try to re-load the RTF file, it loads it as plain TXT with all the RTF formatting codes exposed. However, you can load the RTF file into StyledEdit or another RTF editor. I suggest you work in HTML mode and export to RTF only as the last step. Here's an old writer's trick: change the .rtf extension to .doc. MS-Word will convert on-the-fly and your boss will never know the difference.

CLI command for UK English only.

Adapted and packaged for Haiku by Michel Clasquin-Johnson. Tested on Haiku R1/beta 5 x86_64.

Requires: The latest Java runtime from the official Haiku repositories. At the time of writing, installing openjdk21_default will see you through.
