JAMWIKI IS NO LONGER UNDER ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT.

JAMWiki is a Wiki engine implemented using Java/JSP that attempts to provide much of the functionality of MediaWiki. It can be run with or without a database and is designed to be fast and easy to set up.

User Reviews

  • After thoroughly researching all major wiki software, this is easily the best. Our company relies on JamWiki for almost all of its technical internal data-sharing and technical records-archiving, software help, documentation, reference-links, equipment maintenance records, and much more. We used MediaWiki for quite a while but newer versions have become prohibitively slow even with caching enabled on a better-than-mid-grade multi-core server. We used DokuWiki, which is quite nice and fast, but lacks many of the features of a powerful wiki. We tried many of the other major/popular wikis and they were all either (1) lacking features, or (2) to slow for frequent use. JamWiki is - by far - the best. Very easy to set up. The built-in native database is very fast and able to manage hundreds of megabytes of data with no noticeable loss of performance. The fact that JamWiki syntax is 98% compatible with MediaWiki syntax was a huge benefit for us and should be a huge benefit for others as this syntax is considered the de-facto standard for wikis. It also has a robust importer for MediaWiki formatted data. We used it to import thousands of pages and it worked without issue. We are very sad to see that JamWiki is not being actively updated at this time. We strongly hope that Java developers will come together to revive development of this fast, easy, compatible, cross-platform, and robust wiki platform. "Thank you" to the developer(s) who invested their time into this project! Let's see development continue so the world can benefit from a much faster MediaWiki compatible system.
