Hero6 Interactive Demo Readme ----------------------------- ==================== http://www.hero6.com ==================== Welcome to the long-awaited hero6 interactive demo. We have been working on this demo for a long time and hope that you will enjoy it. This is just a small sample of things to come! This version of the Hero6 demo has been created in Adventure Game Studio (AGS) (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk) and not the MAD engine like our previous demo. The reason we used AGS is because MAD is currently being rewritten from scratch and it would have taken quiet some time before we could remake this demo with the new, revamped engine. So rather than dissapoint everyone with more delays, we decided to release what we have with AGS. We hope you have fun with this sneak peak! THE DEMO (V1.2) -------- There are 2 versions of the demo posted. One is a DOS version, which includes MP3 music. And the other is the windows version, which contains MIDI music. Some people have reported trouble getting the DOS MP3 demo to work. But the windows version should work for just about everybody. You just won't hear the music in its best form. You'll need a fairly fast system to run the MP3 demo. If you have anything less than a Pentium II 300, we strongly recommend that you download the windows version of the Hero6 demo instead. UPDATES IN VERSION 1.2 ---------------------- -Fixed bug where inventory window used to mess up after combining 2 items. -Changed Greenleaf's dialog picture to pop up only when she is talking. -Changed hand icon so that it's easier to click on things -Fixed spelling of the word 'Squirrel':) -------------------------- Troubleshooting -------------------------- There are a few issues with the AGS demo that we are aware of. If any of the following occur, try the solution listed. NOTE: Sometimes when you try to pick flowers, the hero will get a drink of water instead. This happens because AGS Cannot detect the transparant part of an animated sprite (ie. the flowing water and pool) AGS thinks you are clicking on the pool instead of the flowers. So in order to pick flowers, make sure you click the hand icon at the very bottom of the flower patch. ****** DOS PROBLEMS ****** Q/ I receive an error message which says "There was a problem initializing 16-bit graphics mode Problem: Resolution not supported" A/ This occurs when your video card is unable to display High-color mode in 320x200 resolution under dos. Either try running the hero6setup.bat and changing to a higher resolution (not recommended) or downloading the windows version instead. Q/ I can't hear any MP3 music from my SB Live! card or the music is very distored. A/ Try going to My Computer/Control Panel/System and then click on the Device manager tab. From the list, click the + next to 'Creative Miscellaneous Devices' to expand the options. Click on 'Creative SB16 Emulation' and then on the 'Properties' button at the bottom of the box. Click on the 'Resources' tab and uncheck the box that says 'Use automatic settings'. Then choose another configuration from the 'Settings based on:' box. One of these configurations listed should work. Once you have selected a new configuration, click on 'OK' and then run hero6setup.bat. Select 'Sound Blaster Pro' as your Digital sound driver. Select 'Auto detect' for your MIDI music driver. Save the changes and mp3 playback should now work. Q/ The MP3 music is very quiet. A/ Turn the volume slider up in windows before running the Hero6 demo. Q/ I receive an error message, which says "Could not load sprite set file acsprset.spr (ERROR ST01)" A/ Hmmm, No clue what causes this error message to occur! Try the windows version instead. ****** WINDOWS PROBLEMS ***** Q/ I receive an error, which says "could not initialize MIDI card" A/ As long as you can play MIDI files in Windows media player, then MIDI music should work in the windows demo. If it doesn't, then check your soundcard's settings in the device manager and make sure that your soundcard is configured properly to play MIDI files and has all the most recent drivers installed for it. Q/ The game runs in a tiny window. Shouldn't it be full-screen? A/ If this occurs, then your graphics card probably doesn't support 320x200 @ 16 million colors. But you can try running the setup program and change to a higher resolution (640x400), which should fix the problem. However, please be aware that this could slow the game down significantly. ==================== http://www.hero6.com ====================
