http://www.itecohio.org/beacon
or

3. USAGE (on Win32)
=====================
The H.323 Beacon Server version 1.4 can be used in 2 modes:

I. Client-to-Server Mode:
Explanation:
------------
Use H.323 Beacon Client GUI to initiate tests to the Server
Please refer to H.323 Beacon Client documentation for further information on features
supported in the H.323 Beacon Client

II. Server-to-Server Mode:
Explanation:
------------
As shown in the test configuration below, one host (say, HostA) will serve as a test 'acceptor'
and another host (say, HostB) will be used as a test 'initiator'
HostA (acceptor) <======> HostB (initiator)

On HostA:
*********
3.1 Double-click on the 'H323BeaconServer' file icon from the programs menu.

3.2 Go to the folder where the H.323 Beacon Server executable has
been installed using Windows Explorer [Default Location: "C:\Program Files\H.323 Beacon Server"]
and double-click on the "log-server.exe" icon.

NOTE:
-----
a. The log-server.exe is used to send the server side results to the client
side for processing and generating test results.

b. The log-server.exe should run as a seperate window as long the H.323 Beacon
Server is used in the acceptor mode.

On HostB:
*********
3.3 Open a command prompt and go to the folder where the H.323 Beacon Server executable has
been installed using the 'cd' command [Default Location: "C:\Program Files\H.323 Beacon Server"]

3.4 To initiate a test to HostA, Type "H323BeaconServer -a <AcceptorIPaddress>";
<AcceptorIPaddress> is the IP address of HostA

NOTE:
-----
a. Use the H.323 Beacon Server with '-a' option to initiate tests to another Server

b. To view the results in html format, type:
"H323BeaconServer -a <AcceptorIPaddress> -r html"

c. To view the results in text format, type:
"H323BeaconServer -a <AcceptorIPaddress> -r text"

d. If you dont' give a -r option, the default result format will be the
text format.

3.5 The test generally takes 3-5 minutes for completion. Please be patient!
At the end of the test session, test results will be displayed on your terminal
or your default web browser if you used the '-r html' option

4. GENERAL INFORMATION
=========================
4.1 The default installation contains a 'media.wav' file. This file can be replaced with
any other wav file provided it adheres to the following specifications:

4.1.1 The file should have a sampling rate of 8000Hz, Mono

4.1.2 The file should play for a minimum duration of 2 minutes. If this specification is not
met, the result plots will not be generated as expected. However, a file play duration
greater than 2 mins is acceptable; the test session will take longer for completion.

4.1.3 The new file has to be named as 'media.wav' and should reside in the same directory as
the H.323 Beacon Server executable

4.2 H.323 Beacon Server Administrators or Users willing to permit Server-to-Server tests,
should ensure port 5050 is open. This port will be used to exchange trace files on both
ends for generating test results as expected.

4.3 Uninstalling the H.323 Beacon Server does not erase files generated by initiating
tests after the installation. To completely remove all files associated with the H.323
Beacon Server upon uninstallation, manually delete the H.323 Beacon Server folder.
[Default Location: "C:\Program Files\H.323 Beacon Server"]
