Readme

More tool information and the user's guide can be found at the project website, http://transit.melindamorang.com.

Software requirements
- ArcGIS 10.0 or higher (standard ArcView license or higher)
- Network Analyst extension
- Python 2.5 or higher (should be installed with ArcGIS) (python 2.4 might work)

Downloading GTFS_NATools
- Download the zip file. Save it anywhere you like, and unzip it. The package contains a .tbx toolbox file, and a folder of python scripts needed to run the toolbox, and a copy of the user's guide.
- No installation is necessary. You can run the tool from ArcCatalog, or you can run it from ArcMap. If running the tool from ArcCatalog, just navigate to the folder in which you saved the toolbox. If running it from ArcMap, right-click in ArcToolbox and click "Add Toolbox". Navigate to where you saved the toolbox and add it.

Data preparation
GTFS data
- Download GTFS data for the transit authority (or authorities) you wish to analyze. Check the transit authority's website or look at http://www.gtfs-data-exchange.com/.
- Unzip the GTFS data into a folder of your choice.
- Warning: GTFS datasets can be very large.
Network Dataset
- You need an ArcGIS Network Dataset streets network for the area you plan to analyze. A streets network for the entire United States should be available in the data disk you received from ESRI with your ArcGIS software.
Points to analyze
- You can use any GIS points dataset. If your data is in CSV or Excel format, please convert it to a GIS dataset before running the tool.
