I agree with Terry Schenkel's 2021 review that it's a little difficult to get started, but worth the effort. I too have an IT background as a software engineer, and that was very helpful in 'guessing' how the features of Gramps work. Window management departs from MS Windows in some respects (e.g. minimal use of dialog boxes) as the GUI appears to have more X Window ancestry (if you'll pardon the pun.) This surely reflects its UNIX DNA (again, sorry!) I believe it should be pointed out that this software is intended for professional use, not by amateurs. As such, a period of user training is to be expected. And for the general user, this can be frustrating as the UI does not follow the simple conventions of browsers or MS Office, for example. For comparison, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, AutoCAD and Rational Corporation's Rose products are all intended for professional use, and take some investment of time to become proficient in their use. Finally, I found Google's AI Overview when 'how to' questions were correctly phrased to be extremely helpful. To the point and often with alternatives. Once I become fully proficient in the application I'll rate the remaining aspects. So far I've found Gramps' ease-of-use to be good.

Excellent project: A little difficult to get started on but well worth the effort. I'm thankful that I've a background in IT app development and data storage. Fantastic community for all sorts of support. Open source is another feature.

I also find the product to be difficult at times as some things are hidden deep with out much explanation , it would be nice to have a manual for purchase to use as a reference. I don’t mind the online manual in a form to send off to have printed, is this possible?
