PyGPlates Ubuntu Packages
=========================
To install pyGPlates on Ubuntu, download the .deb file appropriate for your system and double-click on it. Packages are available for 16.04 LTS (Xenial), 18.04 LTS (Bionic), 19.10 (Eoan), 20.04 LTS (Focal) and 20.10 (Groovy). Packages are available for Python 2 and 3, and for 32-bit and 64-bit, except 20.04 LTS (Focal) and 20.10 (Groovy) which support Python 3 64-bit only (on a default system installation).
If you do not know which version of Ubuntu is installed,
open a terminal and enter the following:
cat /etc/lsb-release
and note the codename displayed.
PyGPlates will then be installed to /usr/lib/pygplates/revision28/.
Note: You will need to set the PYTHONPATH environment variable as follows:
export PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:/usr/lib/pygplates/revision28
...see "Getting started" in the pyGPlates documentation.
For sample data you can install GPlates 2.2.
This places the sample data in /usr/share/gplates/SampleData/.
