Google stopped its SMS service on June 2015. They say everyone has a smartphone so the service is now useless.
I personally disagree and found the feature useful even with smartphones.

This application made for the linux OS enables to send SMS notifications for your primary calendar reminders.
Currently supports Free Mobile only, but easily adaptable to your operator, as long as it provides a SMS service through the internet of course.
