  • First point - this is zero-cost software. I have used accounting packages from MYOB, QuickBooks, Quicken, as well as some enterprise solutions. Each has its own origin and speciality. I have now used Gnucash for 14 years in a single jurisdiction, and now in multi-jurisdictions (currencies, timezones). For a single user scenario for personal accounting this is excellent for the following reasons: 1. Set up - the templates for general ledgers are comprehensive. 2. The documentation and forums are comprehensive and current, which is testament to the popularity of this open-source solution, and the fact that open-source communities generally are more collaborative, and often well moderated. 3. Data entry (day to day book keeping) is very user friendly compared to any of the packages I have used (see above) 4. Reporting is flexible and fast 5. Asset portfolio functions are extremely useful. 6. Scheduled transactions, and accounts payable functions (billing) are excellent (for personal finance management) 7. Foreign currency conversion functions are so handy as are stock price tracking if you use these commodities. (Track your share portfolio, or topping up your global visa card currencies for example) Bugs are minimal. I use this across devices: Windows, Linux, and Mac. I keep my master book file in a cloud service that syncs with my file manager. For me DropBox works best, but Google Drive, or OneDrive would work equally well. I've even used the mobile port (where you can capture spending on the go, but not view your accounts). Gnucash is not for mobile users. I have not used integration with online banking for reconciliation. I have used online integration with share prices, and currency conversions - very good - read the documentation to set up properly. I have used invoicing/billing for my own projects - kids tutor services, Council bills, lease payments, etc, etc. Very handy for budgeting. I've not yet figured out how to make the budget feature work for me. I just need to put the time into it. Did I mention this is zero cost? 6/5 stars.
  • Since upgrading to v5.5 - get the message "The procedure entry point xmllOFTPClose could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\(x86)\gnucash\bin\libxmlsec1.dll" Initially I installed the upgrade over the previous version when the message started to occur. I uninstalled the program completely and reinstalled and still get the same issue. Why? Because even though you uninstall the program in Windows, the DLL files are still there, so by uninstalling the program and then going to C:\Program Files (x86) and removing the Gnucash folder (thus removing all the residual files) and then reinstalling Gnucash - it opened up with no errors or messages. The upgrade process should be updated to refresh the DLL files and mitigate potential errors/issues.
  • Been using gnucash for a couple of years now - great tool and thanks for all you hard work guys.
  • Have used this for years and been very happy with it. I downloaded the new 5.5 today with no problem, but when I tried to install it, I was forced to abort. I lost my very adequate 5.4 in the process, so I now have nothing. The problem appears to be in the installer.

  • I figured out where the file location is entered it is in the initial setup and the default is to the desktop for a Mac. Be sure to change it if you are setting up for the first time. As best I can tell the software is working fine right now. It handles Dollars and Pesos very well. I have to work on how to enable the Fetch rate button. There is another thing to install. Thanks David Coulter
  • This is a very complete personal finance tool that I feel secure with. It doesn't need to plaster my private data & account info all over the web, yet is capable of bringing in transactions. It's not as automatic, but it's not overbearing. It's not as glamorous, but it's clean & simple. Keep up the great work, developers!
  • sangat mudah digunakan, .terima kasih GNUCASH
  • Have been using this application for years now to replace quicken/Quickbooks, Works Well! Thanks! I export files in .QFX and import to app easy!
  • Absolutely brilliant product and FREE. However, I do have 1 small gripe: The ability to set a relative accounting/tax year start date (just day and month) is not available. You can set an absolute accounting year, but that has to be changed every year. Please look into this
  • Wonderful reliable application. My only quibble is with some of the UI choices such as pale colours on top of pale colours, redundant questions when importing QIF, funny places to store report templates.
  • I have been using GnuCash since August 2015 to maintain my personal accounts. Until then, I had been using both Quickbooks and Quicken. I have never regretted the change to GnuCash as I find the programme easy to use and maintain all my bank, cash and asset accounts in one simple-to-use package. I have recommended and set the programme up for many of my friends, all of whom have expressed their satisfaction.

Ojalá mas programadores puedan ayudar a desarrollarlo mas. Saludos.
  • I've been using Gnucash for a year now to keep the financial records for our Men's Shed. I find it excelent and recommend it for anyone needing an accounting package for small business or a club.
  • I recently starting using GnuCash for small business accounting and have not looked back! Open source so you never have to worry about vendor lock-in, very customizable, and since it's been around for a while you can google just about any thing you need to know and it will surface. Spend some time reading the docs to get the most benefit. Recommended
  • wow i really like it amazing work thank you:
  • Does everything that the big-box premium software does. While there is a learning curve, the program is relatively easy to use and provides all the functions needed to balance your check book or track your finances and investments. Oh! and by the way, you don't have to break your budget to buy it either...
  • I'm an accountant and have used many accounting/bookkeeping programs including Xero and MYOB. Gnucash is certainly not on that level but it's great for small businesses and individuals who don't need payroll. I'm not registered for GST so I'm not sure if Gnucash can deal smoothly with Australian GST. I recently recommended GnuCash to a relative who is treasurer for a larger Rotary club. He says it's great and a huge improvement over the Excel spreadsheets previously used. Rotary at this level has weird, non-standard reporting requirements. Between the two of us we set up special reports that do the job. Two things needs improving: 1. Bank reconciliations. Not the reconciliation per se but reporting thereof. There doesn't seem to be a way to print a standard reconciliation report. 2. Direct access to Australian bank accounts. This seems to be possible for Europe and the US but Australia misses out. I should add that my relative is not an accountant or bookkeeper and he picked GnuCash up pretty quickly (granted, I helped). Re QIF files: I avoid them as the import is quite clumsy. OFX is smooth and fault-free. If you can't get an OFX file there are plenty of QIF to OFX converters that might be a solution.

  • Thanks for the program under a free open source license!
  • awesome...
  • Having used Quicken for decades I needed to get out of the expense of a program I use occasionally for my business. Gnucash has the basics covered and few extras but it is not a direct substitute for Quicken. I am thankful to all who have laboured over make this available for free. And for that price you don't get as many features, as intuitive and smart a program or as good looking an interface. But it works, does backups and never crashes. Yes, it will take a weekend to figure out how it works and to set up your accounts. Do take care in importing your bank downloads.

  • looks good
  • This is an excelent program. I see that a few users find a problem with importing their data from quicken. I do have a solution for those users even if it’s a little cumbersome. I have found that there is an issue with the importer starting with version 3.2 (I think), but if you install versions 2.6 or 3.1 then you will be able to import your data from the QIF file that Quicken created. I’ve over 30 years of data with thousands of transactions spanning multiple accounts and categories and I can import them with no problem. Then you can install the latest version (3.7 at this time) and click away. I wish someone of the developers read this and maybe replace the importer (of the latest version) with the version the 3.1 version used so people do not have this issue any longer. Now, if someone could teach me how to get transactions from my bank or get stock prices, that would be awesome. Thanks.
  • Was a perfect replacement for Quicken. Reports are a bit hard to understand but the rest is perfect for me. The migration of my data of 20 years from Quicken was easy and done perfectly. Thank you.
  • This is a great application once you've got the hang of it which if you don't have an accountancy background can be a bit of an uphill struggle but p****vere, its worth it when you have. There does appear to be a recurring bug with creating reports which has never been resolved, its a bit hit and miss if it works for you. I never had a problem with reports until installing on a Windows 10 machine but now no matter what I try including all the fixes described on GnuCash forums I just cannot get to work at all.

  • The app is excellent in many aspects but lacks a more friendly support, manly regarding FAQs and tools for finding problem solutions. I recommend firmly this applications for my associates.
