This is an image registration plug-in for Gimp.

Image registration (also known as image alignment) is the process of transforming one image so that it best matches another image. This is especially useful when you want to combine two or more images that are similar but geometrically misaligned.

Visit the project web page at https://gimp-image-reg.sourceforge.io for detailed information on installing and using the plug-in.

Starting with version 3.0.0, this project is licensed under the MIT License.

  • I've followed the instructions on installing this plug in carefully but I have not been able to get it to appear as a plug in. I'm probably doing something wrong. I could really use this plug in! I'm on a Mac M1 recent MacBook Pro. I downloaded the plug in in it's binary form, unzipped it and moved it to the plug in folder as specified in the documentation, but the Image Registration tool never appeared in Gimp (release 2.10.34) Mac: Ventura 13.2.1 M1 Max. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi fredg, Sorry for the late reply. The macOS binaries in version 2.0.1 of the plug-in were compiled for Intel processors. Because of this, the precompiled version will not run on an M1 Mac. However, the menu entry "Image Registration..." should still appear under the Tools menu, even if the plug-in itself cannot run due to the wrong architecture. I unfortunately do not know why it does not appear on your system. One possible cause is missing execution permission for the file "gimp-image-reg.py", but even with the correct permissions the plug-in would not run on M1 Macs. To get it working on your MacBook, I recommend downloading the source code and building the plug-in yourself. In the "scripts" folder you will find a script named "build_python_plugin_macos.sh" which explains the steps needed to build the plug-in on macOS. After building it, unpack the resulting binary package into your plug-ins folder. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you need more detailed information. Behnam
  • I wish this worked in Win64!! Is it active? Is there any way I can help make it functional in 64-bit windows 10?
  • One of my most valued plug-ins for GIMP. In the right situation this plug-in can save you a large amount of time while also having much more accurate results than what can ever be achieved with only your hand & eyes. I definitely recommend it.
