  • Many, many thanks for writing this. And in case anyone's wondering, the patch for 2.7.4 goes straight in to the source for Gimp 2.8.2 in Debian wheezy, no errors, no messing, and it works. The Gimp developers' attitude on this (as seen on the bug report page linked in Tomek's review) really sucks - arrogant, self-contradictory and irrational. Endless and largely meaningless guff about why it's not the default any more, but nowhere in all their blah is there the slightest justification for refusing to include it *as a user-selectable option*. *They* may have decided they don't like the classic interface, but why do they have to be so boorish and rude to the people who do? As this patch demonstrates, it's not like it's a huge amount of code. Still, when open-source free software developers start using phrases like "having a product vision that tries to bring GIMP forward" - what the heck does that even mean? - I suppose it's only to be expected, after all the use of meaningless management buzzspeak is an irrefutable symptom of terminal degradation of the brain...
  • This project is great! I totally agree that putting out the menu ot of the toolbar in GIMP destroys pleasure of using this program. Developers are stubborn - they simply wont change it back, they wont give us the option to have it the old-fashioned-way as it way for over 10 last years. This degradation of open source is horrible. Thank you for this patch! https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=623472
  • I've stuck with GIMP 2.4 and not upgraded because of the "no-image-open" window. I've even toyed with the idea of creating a PPA with gimp-2.4 for newer versions of Ubuntu - now I don't need to!
