  • Firebird, an open-source relational database management system, has been in development since its inception in 1981. Windows, Linux, and other operating systems are all supported by a cross-stage information base motor. One of Firebird's main advantages is its scalability. From little private data sets to enormous undertaking-level data sets, it can deal with information bases of any size and intricacy. In addition, it works with binary, textual, and numerical data. The security features of Firebird are yet another advantage. It upholds client validation, encryption of the data set, and encryption of the organization, all of which can support keeping up with the classification and trustworthiness of the data set's information. Firebird also provides a number of database management tools. These tools include a graphical user interface (GUI) for creating and modifying database schemas, an application programming interface (API) for creating custom applications, and a command-line interface for executing SQL commands. Notwithstanding, Firebird's exhibition is one possible disadvantage. Although Firebird can manage large and complex databases, it may not be as quick as other relational database management systems like PostgreSQL or MySQL. Generally speaking, Firebird is a social information base administration framework that is strong and versatile. It is suitable for numerous applications due to its numerous features. It is a popular choice for some engineers and organizations due to its versatility, security features, and variety of tools for monitoring and controlling data sets. Nonetheless, while considering its reasonableness for use specifically projects, its more slow presentation ought to be considered.
  • Firebird has been the most stable DB engine i have ever worked with. Install is super-fast, small and easy. I think it is also the best database for embedded, since it is so rich but also very small. It is often compared with PostgreSQL that is much bigger in size, even if it almost has the same functionalities. I have worked with FB since version 1 up to version 3, and it is still the most stable DB engine i know of. The big con is that it is not on standard shared servers. I hope it will be.
  • This is an answer for me when i looking for alternate RDBMS to replace my previous projects 5 years ago (i was use mysql and sqlserver). Together with flamerobin, firebird is the simplest but robust RDBMS compared to other, event to commercial databases system. can't wait for 4th version that has built in replication, and it will become 'complete form database system' :D
  • Under windows 10 64bit - no install. The win64 installler did zero. I have deleted all files from my pc. This is a good idea, but it just did nothing. Yes, I read the quick install pdf file and followed the instructions. Maybe the linux versions work.
  • I've tested it on Windows as embedded variant (DLL), and found it quite programmer-friendly, while speed and ACID characteristics are on the level of PostgreSQL (that is NOT embedded).
  • Firebird, the little database server that can. In a big way! I have used Firebird in all projects where the choice was not set, for the last 20 years, starting with the open source version of Interbase. From embedded to 24/7 running servers with hundreds of concurrent connections. Hundreds of databases, millions of records. Front-ends in Delphi,Python,.Net,PHP.Lua. Never lost any data. It just works. + Small, very reliable, works well on Windows, Mac and Linux, very portable, database is just a file. + Excellent and Full SQL support, in FB3 with windowing etc. Domains that can be used everywhere, cursors, etc, etc. + Generators/Sequences instead of the, dare I say it, insane autoinc fields in SQL server. + Excellent performance when using the right indexes etc. Indexing is crucial as it does not just take all internal memory to cache everything like SQL server does. + Excellent procedural and trigger language, much like Oracle, much better than SQL server. Stored procedures can behave as virtual tables(using 'suspend', think of yield), making them great for multi-tier development, actually it just makes them great, period. +Multi generational architecture makes it almost impossible to get locked. No, you don't need to query with a nolock option like in SQL server. +Backup/restore is painless, but you need a command-line tool called gbak. Are there downsides ? - Tooling, but excellent paid tools exist ( EMS sql manager, Upscene produtions SQL studio) - Size of rows are only 32 kilobytes. Need varchar to the max? You are out of luck. But support for Blobs is good and actually quite fast (almost as directly reading/writing to file) - Support/Community?

  • Na minha opinião, Firebird é um SGDB excelente... Tão bom e melhor do que os "pagos" por seu desempenho e confiabilidade...
  • Quite useful to me. I surely recommend.
