Self-update. File Labs now updates itself: it checks shortly after launch and every 30 minutes, downloads the installer, and restarts into the new version. "Later" silences a version until the next launch, and Settings → About has a manual check.
Folder sizes are remembered between sessions. Opening a full 12 TB drive used to rescan everything; now the sizes are there immediately (49 s of CPU → 1.2 s in a real measurement). A size is reused only while the folder itself is unchanged; Ctrl+R rescans.
Folders open without freezing the window. Reading a folder and asking the drive for free space — slow on network drives — happen in the background.
New file and New folder. Ctrl+N asks which type of file to create, using the same list Explorer's New menu shows, plus everyday types it may be missing (text, Markdown, JSON, CSV, PowerShell, batch). Ctrl+Shift+N makes a folder. Both have buttons in the bottom bar.
Looks. Real Windows icons in the sidebar and on tabs, the active tab now shares the panel's surface, and a file that has been cut shows a dimmed icon.
