UPDATES

12-5-20
Updated for latest version of ImageJ - bundles Java so that download should run properly (does for my MacBook Pro running Catalina). Note that this update lacks the icon and just says "FIJI" as an icon, which I will change eventually, get the stylish icon in there and delete this sentence!

Introduction
This package version of Fiji/Imagej is designed to allow easy semi-automatic tracing of wing trichomes and determination display of trichome polarity. This package is Free Software (also known as Open Source software).

Licensing
This plugin is free software, licensed under the GNU GPL v3 so please do contribute any suggestions that you think would be useful. Please email me at dobensl@umkc.edu with any feedback.

Installation

For the Mac:
FijiWingsPolarity2.2 is distributed as packaged version of Fiji for the Mac - to install it, download the file “.tar.tar.bz2”, unzip and drag/place in Applications folder (another copy of Fiji can co-exist in the folder).

Launching FijiwingsPolarity2.2 for the first time requires overcoming two hurdles that may be specific to your Mac. First, in Yosemite and ElCapitan OS, you will receive either (1) a warning that you are opening a program downloaded from the internet (click “OK”), or (2) you will be prevented from doing so at all. Go to Systems Preferences/Security & Privacy and click the radio button on “Allow Apps downloaded from” either “All” or “SourceForge” selections. You'll need admin priviledges to do this.

The second hurdle is to install Java on your computer if you installed the "no java" version. Again, follow-through on the prompts that will install the latest version of Java on your computer, and then Fijiwings2.2 will launch successfully.

For Windows:
No version yet. Stay tuned. Get a mac in the meantime.

Feedback
Please report any bugs that you find with Fiji's "Help > Report a Bug" menu option. For other feedback please email dobensl at umkc.edu. There are other very useful ways of giving feedback on Fiji (e.g. the mailing lists, IRC, etc.).

Authors
These macros were written by Leonard Dobens with feedback and direction from Anna Shipman and Alexander Dobens:
Many thanks to all of those authors for releasing their code under the GPL.

Known instabilities
none

Glitches are often rectified by simply repeating the task. At times, especially after many measurements, we find it necessary to quit the application and start again.
