ffplayout v2.3.0

This release introduces HTTP push notifications, improves encoder compatibility, and restructures the internal configuration for better maintainability and future development.

Highlights

HTTP Push Notifications

ffplayout can now send log alerts to external services via HTTP push notifications.

This makes it possible to integrate playout monitoring with external notification systems, webhooks, automation platforms, or custom monitoring services.

Notification delivery has also been hardened with:

• Configurable notification levels
• HTTP request timeouts
• Filtering of verbose log messages
• Rate limiting and improved duplicate handling
• Better handling of invalid notification levels

Improved Video Encoder Compatibility

Video encoders that only support target bitrate configuration are now detected dynamically.

Instead of relying on hardcoded encoder names, ffplayout checks encoder capabilities at runtime. This improves compatibility with hardware and platform-specific FFmpeg encoders, including stateless hardware encoder wrappers.

Configuration Database Improvements

The internal configuration database has been significantly restructured.

Configuration data is now stored in dedicated, normalized config_* tables, and authentication-related tables have been separated and renamed accordingly.

Existing configuration data is migrated automatically through the database migration system.

This change provides a cleaner foundation for configuration management and future development.

Improved Text Overlay Presets

Persistent text overlays can now reference saved presets more reliably.

Preset handling and validation have also been improved, including better responses when updating or deleting presets that no longer exist.

Reliability Improvements

• Improved notification delivery and log filtering
• Prevented rate-limited notifications from growing the internal fingerprint cache indefinitely
• Improved handling of unknown notification levels
• Improved validation of audio/video duration differences
• WebVTT duration mismatches are now logged as warnings instead of errors

• Updated Argon2 password hashing dependency
• Updated Rust and frontend dependencies
• General dependency and maintenance updates

Upgrade

Existing installations can be upgraded normally.

Database migrations are applied automatically when ffplayout starts. As always, backing up the database and configuration before upgrading is recommended.
