RELEASE NOTES - FenuaSoft v3.0

FenuaSoft project is pleased to announce the release of version 3.0 of our Windows-FOSS distribution. We have timed the release to be out just after the holidays so you can fill the stockings of friends, family and teachers with Free and useful software. Major additions in this version include Firefox, OpenOffice, TheGIMP and VLC. The CD browser technology is also new this time, and is based on Firefox. This approach should make it simpler to make derivatives, including localized versions, some of which will be out shortly.

About FenuaSoft:

FenuaSoft is a small collection of only the highest quality OSS for Windows, easily available on a CD. The programs are carefully selected to ensure stability, ease of use and a clean install and un-install from your computer. The CD is intended as a first introduction to the world of OSS, but it is our hope that you will later go on to explore other projects, and at some stage you may even want to try a whole new operating system, such as GNU/Linux (usually miscalled Linux).

ABOUT SOURCE CODE:

Section 3 of the GPL states that the source code must either (a) be made available along with the excecuteables or (b) a written offer must be included offering to supply the source code directly. Only if the program has NOT BEEN RE-COMPILED and the distributor is NON-PROFIT, is it sufficient to simply pass on an offer provided by someone else (3.c). TheOpenCD project IS non-profit and we have not re-compiled any of the programs but are simply redistributing the original binaries as obtained from the original sources, and as such we qualify for pt 3.c.

A note to CD re-sellers: When you sell CDs for a profit, you are _not_ covered by pt. 3.c of the GPL. That means that you must either (a) include the sources with the software (ie. place it on the CD or a separate CD) or (b) include an explicit offer with the software to provide the sources upon request. This could be on paper with the CD, or as a file added to the CD. It is NOT sufficient for you to simply pass on the offer made by us or by the original project.
